This double-thick, tender center cut of beef (named after Vicomte François René de Chateaubriand) is the best of the best. Funny Chateaubriand Story

Can’t resist telling this. Approching Christmas about 1992 I was taken to Ketners in Mayfair for lunch. It was my first time there and my client suggested we have the Chateaubriand. It was fabulous and I’ve been a massive fan of both Ketners and Chateaubriand ever since. On my return to the office a colleague (who shall remain nameless) was in a flap because he needed to arrange a Christmas lunch for 10 clients – he came over and asked my advice – without hesitation I said “go to Ketners, it’s great, oh and have the chateaubriand”. My colleague went away very pleased his actual words were “thats exeactly the kind of recommendation I need”.  Some days later my colleague took his clients to Ketners but at about 5pm his assistant returned to the office laughing uncontrolabily (as, it turned out, she had been doing for the subsequent 4 hours). My colleague had impressed his clients with his choice of venue for sure, but when presented with the wine list he promptly closed it shut stating ”oh we don’t need that, we’ll just have two bottles of the Chateaubriand” – Priceless!
